DeSigns Partner with BID Harrogate to Fill Empty Shops with Colourful Window Graphics

DeSigns partnered up with BID Harrogate in their recent campaign to use empty shop windows to the tell the story of Harrogate’s connection to famous people.

With some of the bigger retailers shutting up shop, it’s meant a number of large units in and around the town centre are empty, including Debenhams on Parliament Street and Swarovski on James Street.

As we all know, empty store fronts can be a little bit on an eyesore and a reminder of the struggles high street stores face. BID Harrogate wanted to tackle this by creating eye-catching, informative window graphics that could be hung in the windows of empty units. Not only do the window graphics add some much-needed colour to the store fronts but the hope is they will help drive footfall into the town centre too.

Some of the famous faces that are featured are Sir Edward Elgar, The Beatles and Louis Armstrong. Composer Edward Elgar was a regular visitor to the town, staying at both the Crown Hotel and Majestic Hotel, whilst the Beatles and Louis Armstrong played at the Royal Hall.

“ It was a pleasure to have collaborated on this project with BID Harrogate, local Harrogate historian Malcom Neesam and creative agency The Lift Agency. As a signage company, we know the power windows graphics can have and how they can help dramatically transform a space.“ Says Designs Director Mark Deighton “It’s a real shame when shops must close but hopefully these colourful, fun window graphics will breath some live back into our beautiful spa town. “
